Based on the 1918 play The Forest Song by poet Lesya Ukrainka, this animation draws inspiration from Ukrainian and Slavic folk mythology. Young and naive forest spirit Mavka falls in love with a human musician, Lukas. As they grow closer to each other, an inevitable situation forces Mavka to choose between her love and her duty to protect the heart of the forest.
