This year’s festival continues EUFF’s tradition of collaborating with Singapore film-makers. This year’s selection deepens this partnership by presenting a look-back and look-ahead to the rich tradition of short films in Singapore.
EUFF partnership with *SCAPE, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, School of Film & Media Studies; Nanyang Technological University (NTU) School of Art, Design and Media; Lasalle College of the Arts and Yale-NUS College. For the first time, EUFF 2025 presents a film from Temasek Polytechnic.

外婆’s Coming Over! (Grandma’s Coming Over!)

Screened at the 2024 Mental Health Film Festival. Grandma is coming from Ipoh to stay with Shin Mun and her family while her relatives search for a caretaker back home. Determined to find out more about her grandmother’s present and her past, she tries to make up for the time lost due to language and long-distance barrier.

Screened at the 2024 Mental Health Film Festival. Inked delves into the life of a former drug abuser, marked by two convictions before reaching a turning point in his life. Shahrom reflects on his bitter past, which began in his youth when he was first introduced to drugs. Through his story, we uncover the truth that led him down this destructive path that intertwines with his profound love for music and art. Told with raw honesty, his story serves as an inspiration for those battling addictions.

Disarmed by the loss of his wife, Steven begins a journey with his wife’s items across the island in order to burn them as offerings. During his journey, he encounters various people, all with their own stories. Steven then sees a mirror of himself in Anna and ultimately finds the true closure he needs. Received two awards at the National Youth Film Festival in Singapore.

Three geeky junior college graduates find themselves on the brink of change with National Service starting the next day. Fearing that they have not experienced anything noteworthy in their entire lives, they create a list of daring and perilous tasks to complete by the end of the night, setting out to prove to each other their preparedness for the challenges of military life. Winner of the Best Art Direction category at the Singapore Youth Film Festival 2024.

A father-daughter relationship is tenderly explored in this short. An affectionate but shy father wants his nonchalant 22-year-old daughter to tell him that she loves him one final time. This is during a midnight talk before the morning of her flight to the United States, where she will be working and settling down. The daughter struggles to express herself as she battles anxiety over her impending move overseas.

BEYOND THE DOOR

An old woman reluctantly leaves her house and steps out into a white space with a bell. She drags her house with her and rings the bell, causing a door and its Gatekeeper to appear. She struggles to pull her house through the narrow door, and fights off the Gatekeeper who tries to stop her from doing so. Eventually, she fails and must let go of her house to walk through the door. However, she realises that she can immortalise her house through the memories she has of them and she willingly moves on, letting go of her worldly attachments.

Hierarchy explores the cyclical nature of familial expectations, the flaws that connect generations, and the inevitability of seeing ourselves in those who raise us.
